Bradenton, Florida, October 3, 2016—We Care Manatee, Inc. (We Care) is pleased to announce it has received a $5,000 grant from the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation. These funds will support We Care Manatee’s mission of providing a cost effective, private sector solution to Manatee County’s uninsured health care needs by connecting eligible County residents with the care they need from local physicians, regardless of their ability to pay.

The grant will assist We Care Manatee in offsetting operational and program costs associated with meeting the growing need for medical supplies and patient education for low-income, uninsured Manatee County residents diagnosed with diabetes. Grant funds also will be used to purchase diabetes supplies and education materials for We Care’s free primary care clinic.

We Care offers four unique programs to support eligible uninsured, low income residents of the Manatee County community. We Care’s specialty physician referral program provides access to more than 80 volunteer physician specialists who donate their time and services. The pharmaceutical assistance program offers certain prescription medications with refills at no cost. We Care’s breast health and wellness offering provides preventive and diagnostic mammograms, as well as breast ultrasound, MRI and surgical consultation at no charge. We Care also operates a free primary care clinic, staffed by dedicated employees and volunteer physicians, for diagnosing and managing acute and chronic health care needs.

“Funds from this grant will complement our pharmaceutical offering and provide us with an opportunity to offer glucose monitoring supplies, as well as educational materials and classes to our diabetic patients at no cost,” said Victoria Kasdan, R.N., MPH We Care Manatee executive director. “Through the generosity of the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund of the Manatee Community Foundation, we can continue to offer low-income, uninsured diabetics in our community free access to resources that empower and facilitate self-management of their condition.”
